Accommodation in Marrakech: time to choose…
Good, it’s all decided; off to Morocco for the holidays!
Ok…but where will we stay?
Normally this is where you start to get a headache because as soon as you cheerfully sit down at your computer and open a search engine looking for accommodation Morocco dozens of pages of results pop up….Ppppffff…..
“Honey, can you please bring me another beer, I think this is going to take much longer than anticipated!”
But you know what? I’m going to give you a hand…
Firstly, it’s important to know what category of accommodation you’d like:
Marrakech hotels in the “Tour Operator” style :
Very numerous, location is essential when it comes to choosing these hotels. In order of preference I would look for one in the Medina first, as it will be the most practical, then in the Hivernage, Gueliz and Agdal, and last of all the Palmeraie. Booking through the hotel’s own website is certainly the best option as you will usually find better prices that way. I can’t talk about comfort, ratings, or service quality, purely about location, so make sure to check carefully the address of any hotel like this, and don’thesitate to read some reviews about hotel marrakech as other travelers comments are very helpful while choosing.
Marrakech guest house hotels :
During the 30s, and in the decades that followed, lots of little ‘guest house hotels’ were built, and are principally found in the Gueliz district. At a very affordable price (generally around 15-40 euros), these hotels have a very typical Moroccan flavour, very much in the art-deco style and are usually in buildings that wanted to be part of ‘contemporary Marrakech’. This type of hotel Marrakech can sometimes surprise you, is often pretty kitsch, and can be perfunctory in terms of comfort, but is undeniably familial.
A Riad in the Marrakech medina :
Lots has already been said and written about the typical Marrakech riad as the ideal of the classic Moroccan abode. In any case, as you are looking for a proper riad Marrakech, I will insist on one very important point: don’t believe anyone who tries to sell you a ‘traditional’riad outside of the media…it’s a crock! Only choose a riad where the owners are present. It will not absolutely guarantee you an ideal or unforgettable visit but if you need anything, urgently or not, inside the house or outside, the majority of owners will do their utmost to host, guide or help during your stay. It’s much easier for them to do this if they’re on site!
Private villas outside the medina :
Since the end of the 90s, as the red city has become one of the most popular destinations for Europeans, and even for those coming from the major cities in Morocco, a large number of private villas have been built and, with time, have transformed in to upmarket guest house Marrakech. Indeed, whether it’s on the road to Ourika, Ouarzazate or, and above all, in the famous Palmeraie, these luxurious villas now offer a hotel experience that rivals many of the most beautiful hotels in Marrakech.
For me and traveling with kids, even if the hotel Marrakech are very good place to stay because of all the entertainements you can have in there, i definitely vote for a nice riad Marrakech…and further…Riad Eden…why not ?
