Also called ‘The Beautiful’, this exceptional dwelling was built at the end of the 19th century by the Grand Vizier Ahmed Ben Moussa (also called Ba Ahmed: 1841-1900) while he ruled as Regent of Morocco in the reign of Sultan Moulay Hassan the 1st. He then ruled as Regent of the kingdom while waiting for the coming of age of the future Sultan Moulay Abd al Aziz, who was too young to succeed his father Hassan the 1st on his death in 1894.

The Marrakechi architect Si Mohamed El Mekki El Mesfioui started construction in 1880, finishing 7 years later. The palace, arranged in several Riads, salons, bedrooms (more than 150…) and gardens, all across more than 8 hectares, is rather chaotic as it has been rethought and modified over time. The Vizier originally built this masterpiece of the Arabic-Andalouisan style to house his 4 wives and 24 concubines. Guys, don’t dream about it, just imagine the phone bill…

An on other hand, i do agree to create a partnership with someone, as we could create an incredible guest house Marrakech in a such Palace…

Anyway, if you only visit one thing in Marrakech, this is it!

After that, follow this blog’s guide to Marrakech

What a beautiful start to the day…

You’ve just finished devouring a gargantuan breakfast (Berber-style) on the beautiful terrace at the Riad Eden, the little one is on his DS, and you’ve just managed somehow or another (thanks to a shameful piece of blackmail) to sit the littlest one down in front of a DVD.

The calm and serenity generated by the freshness of the sheets, the softness of your pillow and the singing of the little birds who live in the Bougainvillaea on the patio all become at that moment the ideal setting for lazily prolonging your excellent night for another hour or two…true happiness!

But suddenly, out of the bathroom comes a raging torrent of questions, the main thrust of which is: “darling, what are we doing today?”

Yes, I know guys, rather ruins the atmosphere eh?

In any case, it can’t be any clearer: end of the rest so hoped for…

So as not to crash Google’s servers, I won’t enumerate here the Tsunami of words that somehow pull back the sheets and tear you out of bed, as it’s a mystery that only our charming spouses know and also, I don’t want to knock over your favourite search engine….

In any case, from now on guys, no worries – Uncle Manu is here and has prepared a little background for you…

I’ve listed below, in order of my own personal preference, the main sights and different monuments in Marrakech. I’ve added an explication of each one which will enable you to show off a little, and also surprise your ladies, but also keep your dignity when the kids start asking the killer questions to entertain themselves or to pay you back for the 2 hours walking you’ve just made them do:

  • Medina

  • Koutoubia

  • Bahia Palace

  • Ben Youssef Madrassa

  • Majorelle Gardens

  • The Marrakech Museum

  • Saadien Tombs

  • El Baadi Palace

  • Dar Si Said Museum

  • Tiskiwin House

  • Menara Gardens

…Don’t try to visit everything in one day cause it’s impossible, except if you go for a “commando training”, which i don’t specialy recommend…don’t forget your kids ! So for me, it’s much better to make some stops at your place, the Riad Marrakech Eden, and take the most of its terrace with a delighful fresh drink…and peace definitely well deserved !

Ok I tell you: i'm the boss of the Riad Eden in Marrakech. Is that enough or what? Well actually not, that's why i've decided to create this blog on Marrakech in order to bring some additional informations to our activity such as a Guest House in the Riad Marrakech Medina. You can find here: history, tips, informations, restaurants, events, accommodations...etc. So let's explore it, and feel free to participate leaving a comment !

We, all the family, dropped off our suitcases in Morocco in Sept 2006 and started a new life...in an another world !
As soon as you will step in that one, and in our Eden, something funny will turn a simple stay into a very familial and convivial experience ! Com'on, let us explain and share this with you around a mint tea...Pppffff it was a joke...around a beer sounds much better, but that's also fine with a mint tea...for you ;-)
